BELLINGHAM, Wash. – After a two year hiatus, Ski to Sea returned to Whatcom County on Sunday, May 29th.

Ski to Sea 2022 kicked off with 334 cross-country skiers racing their way past the starting line at Mt. Baker Ski Area.

The seven-leg race saw its first place winner ring the bell in just under six hours.

Birch Equipment’s competitive open team crossed the finish line with a time of 5:59:48.

Beaver’s Tree Service was right behind them less than 30 seconds later, securing their second place finish overall.

And the Boomer’s Drive-In competitive open team rang the finishing bell two minutes later for a third place win.

Most of the components of the race remained the same, but all participants were briefed on how to navigate the event’s new timing system.

Mark Blake with Pacific Multisports said that participants had to tap their bracelet on a sensor at the end of their leg in order for officials to record their time.

In total, 292 teams completed the race.

On a sad note, Ski to Sea officials confirmed that one participant died while attempting to complete their part of the race.
