SUMAS, WA. – (KGMI.com) Votes from Sumas residents on the Fire District 14 levy will not be counted in the upcoming election due to an error on their ballots.

The Whatcom County Auditor’s Office says the ballots sent to Sumas incorrectly contained a question and contest for the proposed levy.

Sumas is in the service area for the district but not in the taxing district, according to the Auditor’s Office.

Any votes submitted by Sumas voters will not be tallied towards the final election results.

If approved, the measure in question would restore Fire District 14’s regular property tax levy to $1.20 per $1,000 of assessed valuation.

The Auditor’s Office has apologized for the inconvenience caused to any voters.
