Former WWU football coach passes away

ROSLYN, WA. – (KGMI.com) Former Western and Eastern Washington University assistant football coach Tom Missel has passed away at age 62.

Missel coached the Western Vikings from 1991 to 1999, the last four as the defensive coordinator.

During his tenure, Western made five national championship playoff appearances and reached the NAIA Division II national championship game in 1996.

Missel later coached at Eastern Washington for three seasons and served as assistant head coach under Paul Wulff in 2001 and 2002.

After coaching, Missel moved to a practice as a private investigator and instructor in detection of DUIs and Field Sobriety programs.

A cause of death has not been released.

A celebration of Coach Missel’s life will be held at 1 p.m. on Saturday Nov. 11 in the Harold Weis Memorial Building in Roslyn, Washington

During his tenure, Western made five national championship playoff appearances and reached the NAIA Division II national championship game in 1996.
