OLYMPIA, WA – (KGMI.com) Graduation rates in Washington have hit record levels as public school enrollment continues to increase.

The 4-year graduation rate for this year’s high school class reached an all-time high of 83.6%, according to data released Tuesday by the Office of Superintendent of Public Instruction.

The higher graduation rate coincides with more of those students being prepared for postsecondary education, according to the OSPI.

They say there is also an increase in the rate of students enrolling in dual credit courses, where they can earn university-level credit while still in high school.

It comes as the OSPI recently announced that enrollment in Washington’s public schools increased by nearly 2,000 students over last year.

Earlier elementary grades continued to see decreased enrollment, however, which the Office attributes to more homeschooling and declining birth rates.
