BELLINGHAM, WA – The old railroad trestle at Whatcom Falls Park is now safely on the ground.

Bellingham Parks and Recreation said the demolition went easier and faster than expected on Wednesday.

The structure collapsed onto itself in what the department calls a “neat and tidy pile.”

The trestle is being removed for the safety of trail users and to improve water quality in Whatcom Creek.

Parks and Rec said they still have a lot of work to do and are asking people to stay out of the area until it’s fully cleared.

Artifacts from the historic trestle could find a home in the Whatcom Museum.
