BELLINGHAM, WA – (KGMI.com) A man is in custody after allegedly firing gun shots during a fight in downtown Bellingham over the weekend.

Bellingham Police spokesperson Megan Peters says officers responded to a report of a fight on the 100 block of W Magnolia Street Saturday night.

An investigation found that the suspect took another person’s handgun during the altercation and fired it in the direction of other people.

The person who owned the gun reported it stolen after the fight.

Officers developed probable cause to arrest the suspect, 24-year-old Ty Brote, at which point they found a bag of controlled substances on him.

Brote remains at the Whatcom County Jail on $30,000 bail.
