SEATTLE, WA. – (KGMI.com) A Seattle man who was part of a fentanyl trafficking ring in Whatcom County has been sentenced.

33-year-old Ahbdurman Ahmed was one of six people indicted last April for the distribution ring working within the county.

Acting US Attorney Tessa Gorman says Ahmed sold thousands of fentanyl pills, including many that ended up on the Lummi reservation, despite taking some that nearly killed himself.

Court records state that Ahmed was sent to the hospital in 2022 after he and another person had overdosed on the pills at a mini mart in Ferndale.

Ahmed was seen trafficking the pills again just ten days later.

Law enforcement seized 1,000 fentanyl pills from two of Ahmed’s customers in January 2023, then took 3,000 more from him in March when he was found with an illegal firearm.

Ahmed will spend the next six years in prison.

Three additional defendants from Bellingham that are implicated in the drug ring have trials scheduled for this March.

Whatcom County Sheriff Donnell Tanksley says his office is committed to locating more dangerous drug traffickers that infiltrate the community.
