Highway 20 is now closed indefinitely between Newhalem and Rainy Pass while crews battle the growing Sourdough wildfire.

As of Sunday, the fire near Diablo Lake was burning almost 1,400 acres and was 0 percent contained.

Terrain there is extremely steep, rugged, and inaccessible, but helicopter water drops should help stop the spread of the fire.

Evacuations are in effect for North Cascades Environmental Learning Center and the community of Diablo.

Thunderstorms and rain moved through the area over the weekend, but there wasn’t enough moisture expected to impact the fire.

A reminder that unauthorized drone flights are prohibited in the area because it can pose serious risks to firefighters and public safety.
