KIRKLAND, Wash. — Owners of John Wayne’s former yacht are asking for help after the vessel hit unmarked rocks in the San Juans last Saturday.

Rick Rutherford is an owner of the vessel and has started a GoFundMe page.

On it, he points to the Norwester’s history of famous guests including Bette Davis and Orson Wells, and its duty as WWII patrol boat.

Rutherford says prospects of saving the yacht are becoming more remote the longer it is stranded.

He is asking financial help for its recovery.
