BELLINGHAM, Wash. – Voters in Bellingham may get to vote on a higher minimum wage for workers in the city.

Whatcom County Auditor Diana Bradrick says sponsors of an initiative have turned in enough signatures and it is being forwarded to the City of Bellingham.

The city council can enact the measure or opt to send it to voters on November 7th.

It would raise the minimum wage in Bellingham to a dollar per hour more than the state minimum, which is currently $15.74.

The auditor’s office is still considering signatures turned in for a separate initiative that would require more advance notice of rent increases and financial assistance for renters to relocate.
