BELLINGHAM, WA (MyBellinghamNow.com) – Ever wish that Pike Place Market was a little closer to Whatcom County?

The Port of Bellingham is looking for farmers, fishermen and food business owners to be part of plans for a Pike Place themed, co-op market on the downtown waterfront. The fresh-food market would be located at the Portal Container Village and would operate throughout the entire year. It is expected to open in spring 2025.

The Portal currently houses six local businesses that are open for three seasons, but the Port is making plans to expand the area to year-round service. They’re opening a few year-round businesses in May, including Bin 13 Wine Bar and Zeek’s Pizza.

Carey Hansen, the Port’s Container Village Manager, said in a news release that she sees those new additions driving the other businesses to be open all year as well.

The Port’s plans for expansion coincide with new housing being built on Bellingham’s downtown waterfront, which Hansen estimates will add 400 new residents over the next three years. Farmers, fishermen and food business owners who are interested in being a part of the market can contact Hansen at careyh@portofbellingham.com.
