BIRCH BAY, WA (MyBellinghamNow.com) – Birch Bay residents are being asked for input as the push continues to establish the area as its own city.

Whatcom County has opened a survey to investigate the financial feasibility and potential impacts of incorporating Birch Bay.

Any full or part-time residents are invited to share their thoughts on current public services and priorities for future service improvements.

My Bellingham Now previously reported that the county council voted in summer 2024 to help fund a feasibility study on Birch Bay’s potential incorporation.

The last time a data study on the region was completed was in 2008.

The public survey closes on Sept. 10, and the final report is expected to be released this fall.

The push has been led by the Birch Bay Incorporation Association, a group of citizens advocating for the urban growth area to operate as its city as its population continues to rise.

The group is holding a barbecue at Birch Bay State Park from 6-8 p.m. on Thursday, Aug. 21 to give updates on the incorporation study and answer questions from the community.
