BLAINE, WA (MyBellinghamNow.com) – A man has been arrested in the stabbing attack investigation, but not for the crime of assault.

Blaine Police announced earlier Wednesday evening, Aug. 19 officers arrested the 26-year-old man that made the report of a stabbing in Montford Park last Monday, Aug. 17.

They say that officers noticed several inconsistencies in the victim’s story, including no footage of the victim or his vehicle at the crime scene at the correct time. No evidence of a crime was also found during the officers’ investigation, such as blood or a scent for a suspect.

Upon questioning the victim about the inconsistencies, the 26-year-old man said he may have experienced a “mental-health-related episode” according to officers.

The man was booked into the Whatcom County Jail on a false reporting charge with $500 bail.
