WHATCOM COUNTY, WA (MyBellinghamNow.com) – A shellfish recall has been issued after a handful of Whatcom County residents fell ill.

Whatcom County Health and Community Services say the clams and oysters were harvested by Gomez Shellfish in Mason County between March 22 and April 9.

Five Whatcom County residents have reported norovirus-like symptoms, including nausea, vomiting and fatigue after consuming the tainted clams and oysters. They were sold at the Community Food Co-op in downtown Bellingham between March 27 and March 31. Those who purchased the shellfish from the Co-op can either cook them to reduce chances of illness or dispose of them.

Two local restaurants also served the contaminated shellfish.

Rock and Rye served the oysters between March 29 and April 4, while Keenan’s at the Pier served some of the shellfish between March 19-23 and between March 29 and April 3.

Anyone who may have become ill from consuming the impacted clams or oysters should contact their doctor.
