EVERSON, WA (MyBellinghamNow.com) – Residents near Everson are grappling with flooding that’s rivaled levels from 2021.

A flood watch for the Nooksack River at North Cedarville remains in effect though late Thursday evening. The river reached record levels there with major flooding early Thursday morning but is expected to lower to the action stage by Thursday night.

Residents in Sumas, Nooksack and Everson were evacuated on Wednesday.

According to Whatcom Ready, the Nooksack has risen higher than the 2021 levels that flooded entire communities within the county.

County officials say an overnight landslide in Kendall damaged one home, several bridge closures and potentially the Twin View levee. Everson City Hall and businesses experienced flooding over night as crews work to assess the extent of the damage.

Displaced residents can take shelter in Lynden through Friday night at the Sonlight Church on Bender Road and the North County Christ the King Church on 18th Street.

A number of hotels in Bellingham are also offering reduced rates for people displaced by floodwaters.

Visit Bellingham and Whatcom County says they include Four Points by Sheraton, Holiday Inn Express, Holiday Inn and Suites, Best Western Plus and Lavissh Inn and Suites. Contact the hotels directly to book a room.

The Mount Baker, Nooksack Valley and Ferndale school districts are all closed Thursday, along with Lummi Nation School.
