FERNDALE, WA (MyBellinghamNow.com) – Plans are moving forward to give Ferndale’s City Hall a big upgrade.

Ferndale City Council voted on Monday, Aug. 18 to approve a contract with Dawson Construction for work on the new Ferndale Civic Campus.

The two-story, 19,000-square-foot structure will be built between the current City Hall and the Ferndale Public Library.

Once it’s built, it will house the city council chambers, municipal court and the city’s administrative offices.

The city says the current City Hall is undersized and will be converted to professional office space.

It’s expected to house some of the city’s nonprofit partners, such as the Chamber of Commerce, Community Service Cooperative, domestic violence support services and other providers.

“After years of planning, this approval positions Ferndale to be able to continue providing the services expected of a modern City,” said Mayor Hansen. “With the support of our state and federal partners, we are delivering a long-term investment in public access, transparency, and efficiency.”

Construction of the Civic Campus is scheduled to begin this fall.
