FERNDALE, WA (MyBellinghamNow.com) – Don’t be alarmed if you see a heavy police presence at a Ferndale middle school this month.

The Ferndale Police Department said it will be training with Whatcom Fire District 7 at Horizon Middle School on Thursday nights throughout June.

The trainings will begin at an unspecified time in the early evening before wrapping up around 8 p.m.

Officers will be using blank ammunition indoors as part of their active shooter and mass casualty response training.

The department said community members likely won’t hear anything from outside the building, but people in the area might notice more emergency vehicles.
