WHATCOM COUNTY, WA (MyBellinghamNow.com) – Forecasters are warning boaters and coastal residents to prepare for an incoming storm.

The National Weather Service has issued a gale warning for the east entrance of the Strait of Juan de Fuca and northern inland waters, including the San Juan Islands.

The conditions will begin to arrive Thursday evening and last through Friday morning.

Amy Cloud with the Whatcom County Sheriff’s Office Division of Emergency Management says coastal communities may see minor impacts as the storm surge tide is forecast at roughly half-a-foot.

Point Roberts and Sandy Point are expected to receive the strongest of the high winds.

Boaters are being advised to take extra caution and secure their vessels.

Residents in these coastal communities should also secure any loose objects like lawn furniture and garbage cans.
