WHATCOM COUNTY, WA (MyBellinghamNow.com) – Gas prices are continuing to climb near the all-time high in Whatcom County.

AAA reports that the average gallon of gas in the county currently sits at $5.34.

That’s up about 5 cents from a week ago and now stands 19 cents away from the highest price ever recorded back in 2022.

Diesel prices are also steadily rising, with the current price of $6.59 setting a new record.

The state average stands just over a dollar more than the national average.

GasBuddy analyst Patrick De Haan says recent escalations in the Iran War have further intensified concerns about extended disruptions to the global oil supply.

De Haan says the future of gas prices remains highly dependent on the reopening of the Strait of Hormuz.
