BELLINGHAM, WA (MyBellinghamNow.com) – With hot summer weather on the horizon, homeowners are being urged to cut back on their outdoor water use.

The City of Bellingham is encouraging people to either follow a voluntary watering schedule or let their lawns go dry this summer.

That would mean no watering on Mondays, even numbered addresses watering on Tuesdays, Thursday and Saturdays, and odd numbered addresses watering on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays.

Most other cities, municipalities and unincorporated parts of the county use a similar schedule developed by the Whatcom Water Alliance.

Bellingham residents in need of water-saving devices—like hose timers—are asked to complete a form on the city’s website.

My Bellingham Now has reported that the water-saving measures come as a statewide drought declaration takes effect for the fourth year in a row.
