WHATCOM COUNTY, WA (MyBellinghamNow.com) – The Lummi Island Ferry’s annual outage has been postponed.

Whatcom County Public Works announced on Wednesday, April 8 that the Whatcom Chief’s dry dock is being pushed back to the fall.

The annual dry dock outage usually takes place for roughly three weeks in the spring and was scheduled to begin on April 25 this year.

But Public Works says the contracted shipyard is facing delays on its end and won’t be able to meet the project schedule.

The county says it plans to launch a new bid process in the coming months.

The new dry dock outage is expected to take place within a three-week window between September and October.
