LYNDEN, WA (MyBellinghamNow.com) – Another city in Whatcom County is adding a new sales tax to fund public safety services.
The Lynden City Council voted unanimously on Monday night to approve a new one-tenth of one percent sales tax.
Pending an eligibility confirmation by the state Criminal Justice Training Commission, it will add a dime to a $100 purchase starting on Jan. 1, 2026.
The city projects the tax will raise up to $400,000 in revenue next year.
My Bellingham Now previously reported that the state Legislature created the option for eligible cities to add the tax earlier this year without needing approval from voters.
Lynden now joins Bellingham as the two Whatcom County cities that have approved the tax for 2026.
