BELLINGHAM, WA (MyBellinghamNow.com) – A man is in custody after calling 911 while leading police on a pursuit on I-5.

WSP Trooper Kelsey Harding says that Bellingham Police officers initially pulled the suspect over near Bakerview Road early Tuesday, Sept. 15.

The suspect, identified as a 35-year-old man, fled police onto I-5 southbound.

WSP spokesperson Trooper Kelsey Harding says troopers found the suspect driver near Ohio Street and a pursuit began in the northbound lanes.

The suspect called 911 while being pursued, telling dispatchers that there was a child in the car and that he had no plans to stop for police.

His car hit spike strips near the Main Street exit in Ferndale, where he got out and tried to run off before being apprehended by a K-9 unit.

Jail records show the suspect faces several charges, including false reporting after no children were found inside the car and DUI.
