Man arrested for DUI following wrong-way crash on I-5 near Birch Bay

BLAINE, WA (MyBellinghamNow.com) – A man is in custody following a wrong-way crash on I-5 near Birch Bay Thursday night.

State Patrol Trooper Kelsey Harding says the collision took place in the southbound lane near the Birch Bay Lynden Road exit just after 6 pm. Harding says the crash damaged two vehicles, but miraculously resulted in only minor injuries. A photo posted to her X account shows the driver’s car that caused the crash with significant damage to its passenger side.

The 35-year-old driver was arrested on suspicion of DUI and remains at the Whatcom County Jail on $1,000 bail.
