Man hospitalized following suspected accidental shooting in Ferndale

FERNDALE, WA (MyBellinghamNow.com) – A man was hospitalized following a suspected accidental shooting in Ferndale on the morning of Tuesday, March 1o.

Ferndale Police said in a statement on social media that they received reports of someone brandishing a gun on Portal Way near the I-5 exit around 10:40 a.m.

The department put local businesses on lockdown while they handled the incident. When officers arrived, they found a person with a gunshot wound.

An employee at a Curb Shots coffee hut nearby the incident tells My Bellingham Now that a man was taking his gun out of its holster when he accidentally shot himself in the leg near Unity Care NW.

The man was transported to PeaceHealth St. Joseph Medical Center in Bellingham for treatment.
