Man in custody following bomb threat at Point Roberts border crossing

POINT ROBERTS, WA (MyBellinghamNow.com) – A Point Roberts man is in custody after making a bomb threat while trying to cross the border.

Whatcom County Sheriff’s Office spokesperson Deb Slater says that the suspect showed up at the Point Roberts border crossing with an axe on the early morning of Saturday, Feb. 21.

The suspect, identified as a 34-year-old man, used the axe to break windows at the Port of Entry building and a government vehicle.

He then threatened to return to the Port of Entry with a bomb before leaving the area.

Deputies arrived to find the suspect had returned to the Port of Entry, where he was taken into custody.

He was booked into the Whatcom County Jail on $150,000 bail.
