SEATTLE, WA (MyBellinghamNow.com) – A man convicted of smuggling drugs by via jet-ski through the Salish Sea has been sentenced.

69-year-old John Sherwood will spend the next 15 years in federal prison, according to the US District Court of Western Washington.

Sherwood’s scheme to transport drugs through the Puget Sound came undone after a family found a duffel bag of methamphetamine on a Port Angeles beach in April of 2021. A second witness found a deflated raft in a different part of the beach, while a third person located seven more duffel bags filled with meth under a nearby bridge.

Investigators later determined that Sherwood had been routinely travelling with narcotics from southern California to a contact on Vancouver Island.

MyBellinghamNow.com previously reported on Sherwood’s initial conviction in 2024. A second trial was ordered after reports surfaced of alleged misconduct by a government witness.
