BELLINGHAM, WA (MyBellinghamNow.com) – No one was seriously injured following an accidental shooting at the Bellingham Safeway.

Bellingham Police Lt. Claudia Murphy says officers responded to a shots fired call on E. Sunset Drive just before 4 p.m. on Thursday, April 23.

They arrived to find that someone’s gun had fallen and discharged. One person suffered a very minor scratch, which police believe to be from a flying fragment, but they did not require any medical attention.

After speaking with the gun owner and witnesses, police determined that the holster had malfunctioned, which the owner realized and was trying to fix.

Despite it appearing to be an accident, Bellingham Police say there was a request for prosecutors to determine whether any charges would be appropriate

Murphy adds that the gun owner has a valid concealed pistol license and is permitted to carry.
