The Mariners have the day off today after somewhat salvaging their rough series in Anaheim.
The M’s beat the Los Angeles Angels 7-2 last night to avoid the sweep.
Seattle scored the first two runs of the game before LA evened it up in the second inning. But the Mariners piled on five runs between the fifth and sixth innings and never looked back.
Cal Raleigh had two hits and three RBI, while Josh Naylor and Julio Rodriguez also had multi-hit games. George Kirby gave up two runs on a career-high five walks over four and one-thirds innings.
The Mariners will now travel to the Mile High City for their final road series of the season. It comes against the Colorado Rockies, who own the worst record in baseball.

The Kraken reported to the first day of training camp today.
The team is coming off a disappointing season that saw them finish with the sixth-worst record in the NHL. They’ll look to rebound in the league’s new 84-game schedule for the upcoming season.
The team recently named Vince Dunn and Brandon Montour as alternate captains, joining captain Jordan Eberle and fellow alternates Matty Beniers and Adam Larsson.
The Kraken open their season on the road against the Calgary Flames on Oct. 1.

A former Huskies coach is looking for a new job under unclear circumstances.
The University of North Carolina announced today that Steve Belichick has resigned as defensive coordinator.
The announcement came as the school concluded its internal investigation into the football program’s culture under his father, head coach Bill Belichick. UNC didn’t provide specific findings of the investigation nor link Steve Belichick to it despite mentioning him along with their statement on its conclusion.
Belichick was the Washington Huskies’ defensive coordinator in 2024 before he left to join his father at UNC.
He will officially leave the program after his medical leave is over on Oct. 27.

Speaking of football, Week 2 of the NFL season kicks off tonight with a high-octane matchup.
The Buffalo Bills are debuting their new stadium when they host the Detroit Lions on Thursday Night Football.
The Bills and Lions each put up over 30 points in their Week 1 wins ahead of what’s expected to be a high-scoring affair tonight. It’s also a meeting between two of the most electric offensive players in the game in Buffalo quarterback Josh Allen and Detroit running back Jahmyr Gibbs.

Western’s men’s soccer team picked up a big win last night.
The 24th national-ranked Viks blanked St. Edward’s 2-0 in Austin, TX. Sophomore forward Tommy Carroll and junior midfielder Lunden Fenster each scored in the second half to help deliver the win.
They’re back at it tomorrow night as they continue their road trip against Dallas Baptist in their final non-conference game of the regular season.
Meanwhile, Western’s women’s team is opening GNAC play tonight when they host Northwest Nazarene at 7:00.
