Mariners News

The Mariners’ search for a new skipper has brought them to their division rivals.

ESPN reports the team has received permission to talk to Houston Astros manager Joe Espada about their vacancy.

Espada’s contract with the Astros expires at the end of the month and his future in Houston is in limbo after the team parted ways with general manager Dana Brown near the end of the season.

Espada has won two American League West titles over his three seasons at the helm in Houston.

The Astros finished this past season with an 81-81 record to become the first team in MLB history to reach the playoffs without a winning record.

NFL News

The Seahawks’ division rivals are making immediate changes after falling in a primetime thriller last night.

ESPN reports the Rams are releasing kicker Harrison Mevis and signing Blake Grupe off the Jets’ practice squad. It comes after Mevis missed an early field goal and had his game-winning attempt blocked in last night’s 37-34 overtime loss to the Bills.

LA has had three blocked field goal attempts since the start of last season, which is tied for the most in the NFL.

Rams coach Sean McVay said after the game that he would “evaluate everything” about the kicking unit.
