Northwest Sports Update: Bellingham-Sehome doubleheader, WWU women face tough road test, Kraken cap off homestand and more

Kraken News

The Kraken are back tonight with a chance to notch their third straight win.

They’re hosting the Toronto Maple Leafs in the final leg of their six-game homestand.

Seattle’s coming off back-to-back wins over the Devils and Capitals where their offense exploded for nine goals between the two. Jared McCann highlighted it with a two goal and two assist performance on Tuesday night.

They now face a struggling Maple Leafs team that has dropped its last five games. A win tonight could give the Kraken sole possession of 8th place in the Western Conference.

Coverage begins at 6:30 and puck drops at 7 on KGMI.

Seahawks News

One Seattle-area city is taking its Super Bowl preparations to the next level for the Seahawks.

The City of Issaquah announced earlier this week that it’s officially renaming itself as “12saquah” through the Super Bowl to honor 12’s fans. It’s the second time the city’s done it, with the first instance coming in 2015 for the Seahawks’ most recent Super Bowl appearance, which also came against the Patriots.

Meanwhile, the Seahawks just unveiled their uniforms for the big game.

They’ll don all-college navy, the same as they’ve worn throughout the playoffs. The uniform will also feature a special “USA 250” patch to celebrate the county’s 250th anniversary. 

WWU Vikings News

Western basketball is back in Bellingham.

The Vikings men are hosting Alaska Anchorage tonight as they look to build on a big win over Simon Frasier on Saturday. Tipoff is at 7:00 from Carver Gym.

The Western women are on the road against Saint Martin’s as the Viks look to get their fourth straight win in a battle between two of the top teams in the GNAC.

UW Huskies News

The Huskies women are coming off a thriller last night.

Washington edged Maryland 83-80 in double overtime. Salvia Sellers scored a career-high 38 points to help the Huskies notch their fifth straight win.

It was one of their biggest of the season, coming against a Terrapins team that’s currently ranked 16th in the nation.

Meanwhile, the men are facing a tough test tonight when they place No. 9 Illinois on the road.

HS Basketball News

Taking a look at high school basketball scores from last night…

The Lynden Christian boys beat Oak Harbor 66-47.

The LC girls added a dominant 68-15 win over Oak Harbor.

 

Coming up tonight, cross-town rivals collide when Bellingham and Sehome face off in a boys and girls doubleheader at Sehome High School.

Coverage for the girls game begins at 5:45 and tipoff is at 6:00 on KPUG, the boys will follow with a 7:30 tip.

Elsewhere around the county…

The Ferndale boys and girls each host Blaine.

The Mount Baker girls host Lakewood.

And the Baker boys are at Lakewood.
