Bells News

The Bells are heading to the West Coast League Championship. Bellingham outlasted the Edmonton Riverhawks 5-2 in the North Division title game last night in a match that lasted over four hours due to a lightning delay.

Rominic Quiban put the Bells up in the seventh inning with a bases-loaded double that scored two. Noah Meffert scored one more on a sacrifice fly to give the Bells a 4-2 lead that would hold for the rest of the game.

All-Star Devyn Hernandez threw four innings of two-run ball in the start and the Bells’ bullpen combined for five shutout innings with just two hits allowed. Chihiro Sato earned the win by throwing three perfect innings of relief.

The Bells now move on to face the defending champion Portland Pickles on the road tomorrow. Bellingham will look to capture its first WCL title since 2014.

The Zone will be live from Walker Stadium in Portland from 3-6 tomorrow before the Bells take the field for a 7:05 first pitch.

You can livestream the game for free on the Portland Pickles’ YouTube channel or listen live to the Bells’ home broadcast.

Mariners News

The Mariners are looking to win their ninth-straight today in Game 2 against the Orioles.

Seattle edged Baltimore 1-0 in their series opener last night thanks to seven scoreless innings from George Kirby. Josh Naylor hit an RBI single to score Randy Arozarena in the first inning for the only run of the game.

The Orioles managed just six baserunners in their third straight loss.

The Mariners have now moved into a tie for first place in the American League West after the Astros lost to the Red Sox last night. They’ll look to take sole possession of the division lead tonight with their longest winning streak of the season on the line.

Coverage begins at 2:30 and first pitch is at 3:35 on KPUG with Logan Gilbert taking the mound.

Storm News

Meanwhile, the Storm are looking to snap their longest losing streak of the season tonight. They’re hosting the Atlanta Dream with a chance to bob their head back above .500.

Seattle has lost five straight games, with all of them being decided by less than five points. The surging Dream aren’t having the same problems, they’re riding a five game win streak and sit just half a game back from first place in the Eastern Conference.

The Storm will look to avoid owning a losing record for the first time in over two months. Tonight’s game tips off at 7:00 from Climate Pledge.

NBA News

The Pacific Northwest’s sole NBA team is under new ownership.

Tom Dundon, the owner of the NHL’s Carolina Hurricanes, has agreed to buy the Portland Trail Blazers for a valuation of just over $4 billion. ESPN reports that Dundon intends to keep the team in Portland.

The Trail Blazers announced they were formally up for sale in May, with proceeds of the sale going to philanthropic ventures by the estate of Paul G. Allen.
