Mariners News

The Mariners weren’t able to best the Bronx Bombers in their rubber match earlier today.

Seattle fell to the New York Yankees 5-3 this afternoon in the deciding game of their series.

Yankees first baseman Paul Goldschmidt hit a 3-run shot in the sixth inning to boot George Kirby out of the game. Kirby finished with four runs allowed and six strikeouts through six innings.

Cal Raleigh hit a 2-run single in the eighth to pull the M’s back within two, but New York’s Ben Rice hit an insurance homer in the ninth to seal the win.

The Mariners have the day off tomorrow before hitting the road for a six-game trip against their AL West rivals LA Angels and Texas Rangers. They’ll open the trip against the Angels on Friday night with Bryan Woo on the mound.

Kraken News

The Kraken’s playoff hopes just took a big hit.

They fell to the Edmonton Oilers 3-0 last night in the final match of their road trip. Oilers goalie Connor Ingram celebrated his 29th birthday by making 27 saves and recording his second shutout of the season to help Edmonton win its third straight.

The Kraken have now dropped 10 of their last 13 matches, but they’re still sitting just two points behind Nashville for the final playoff spot in the Western Conference. Still, they’ll have to break out of their recent struggles soon, with just nine games left in the regular season.

They’ll have another shot at getting back into the playoff picture tomorrow night when they host the Utah Mammoth. Coverage begins at 6:30 and puck drops at 7 on KPUG.

NFL News

A member of the Seahawks’ famed Legion of Boom is moving up the ranks of a division rival.

K.J. Wright was just promoted to linebackers coach for the San Francisco 49ers. He’s about to begin his third season on the Niners’ coaching staff after being promoted from defensive quality control coach.

Wright spent 10 seasons as a starting linebacker for the Seahawks, winning a Super Bowl and making a Pro Bowl along the way.

He’ll now look to help lead a 49ers defense that will be under new leadership after last year’s defensive coordinator Robert Salah left for a head coaching job in Tennessee.

Storm News

One of the Storm’s top guards will miss another season.

The team announced today that point guard Nika Mühl will miss her second straight season with a knee injury. Mühl had surgery yesterday after tearing her right ACL during a game for Croatia in EuroBasket last month.

The 24-year-old former UConn standout has only appeared in 16 games in three seasons with the Storm.

The team will open its season at home against the Golden State Valkyries on May 8.

WWU Vikings News

One of Western’s top softball players keeps racking up the accolades midway through their season.

Senior shortstop Haily Rath won GNAC Player of the Week after the Viks completed a four-game sweep of Central over the weekend.

Rath reached base in 13 of her 17 plate appearances with three doubles, seven walks and three hit-by-pitches. She also scored the game-winning run in Friday’s walk off win.

Rath leads the GNAC in home runs, RBI and total bases, all while batting just over .400 on the season. It was her second time winning the conference’s Player of the Week award in March.

The Viks currently sit atop the GNAC standings with an undefeated record in conference play. They’re back in Bellingham this weekend for another pair of doubleheaders, this time against Northwest Nazarene.
