FERNDALE, WA (MyBellinghamNow.com) – Ferndale’s most popular park is almost back to full strength after being damaged by two floods.

Whatcom County Parks and Recreation said it’s expecting to reopen the playgrounds at Hovander Homestead Park Saturday, May 23.

Parks staff have spread around 200 yards of fresh playground chips across the play areas to get them ready for Memorial Day weekend.

It completes the full reopening of the 350-acre park after December’s flooding forced it to shut down for over a month.

Another flood event forced it to close in March before it opened nearly two weeks later.
