BELLINGHAM, WA (MyBellinghamNow.com) – A local nonprofit has announced their reopening plans several months after a fire damaged their building.

Ragfinery announced their reopening plans during the Upcycled Fashion Show at the Noisy Waters Mural Festival on Saturday, Aug. 16.

Executive Director Kate Sturgis said that the new location at 115 Unity St. will offer a downstairs retail space while upstairs will have a staff and volunteer area with office space.

Demolition and construction are underway to change the space to suit their needs, and Sturgis is especially excited about the loading zone that will offer space for high-volume textile waste diversion.

The Ragfinery, a ReUse Works project, seeks to revitalize fabric scraps and old clothes as well as educate community members on sewing techniques.

My Bellingham Now previously reported that a fire damaged Ragfinery’s old location on Forest Street in December 2024.

The community subsequently raised over $40,000 for the textile organization, which kept them afloat immediately following the fire. An anonymous donor through the Whatcom Community Foundation then offered to match all of their donations to help cover costs to reopen.

Sturgis plans to have a grand opening at the new location in the Arts District before winter this year.
