BELLINGHAM, WA (MyBellinghamNow.com) – Food trucks and free live music have officially returned for the summer on the Village Green in Barkley Village.

Tuesday Tunes is a weekly family-friendly event hosted by Barkley Village that brings together local food trucks and free live music for people of all ages in one of Bellingham’s most active neighborhoods.

Leah Macaleer started Tuesday Tunes five years ago in part of her mission to boost community and neighborhood building in Barkley Village. Macaleer says that every week, a local Barkley Village business sponsors the event and partners with a local nonprofit to raise money.

“It originally started as just a gift to our neighbors and the surrounding neighborhoods,” Macaleer said. “From there, it has continued to grow.”

On the first Tuesday Tunes on July 9, Baby Cakes took the stage with their classic and danceable music. The eight-piece band played hits from Stevie Wonder, Michael Jackson, David Bowie and more to get concert goers out of their lawn chairs and moving to the music.

The Whatcom Humane Society was the featured nonprofit on July 9, and the event was sponsored by Cypress Veterinary Hospital.

“Our vision for the Village is a community and a neighborhood. That’s why we do things like events,” Macaleer said. “Thousands of people shop here every day.”

Tuesday Tunes continues every Tuesday this summer until Aug. 27. Music goes from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. with food trucks serving the whole time.

Allan Fee from KAFE 104.1 will be hosting the event every week on the Village Green. You can find Allan roaming around the grass, introducing the band or handing out stickers all summer long.
