FERNDALE, WA (MyBellinghamNow.com) – A Blaine woman was killed in a wrong-way crash that snarled traffic on I-5 for hours on Tuesday, Jan. 20.

The Washington State Patrol says that a car heading northbound near Main St. in Ferndale veered into the median just before 4 p.m.

The car continued into the southbound lanes, hitting another vehicle. A third car then struck the wrong-way driver.

The driver of the second vehicle, identified as 22-year-old Momina Khan of Blaine, was pronounced dead at the scene. Her passenger and the suspect driver were taken to PeaceHealth St. Joseph Medical Center, while the occupants of the third car were not injured.

WSP says that drugs and alcohol were not factors in this crash, but the cause remains under investigation.

I-5 fully reopened just after 9 p.m.
