WHATCOM COUNTY, WA (MyBellinghamNow.com) – The pedestrian who was hit by a vehicle and killed on the Guide Meridian early Friday was a young woman from Lynden.

The State Patrol reports 24-year-old Reyna Cruz was standing in the right lane of southbound SR539 just after 3:30 a.m. when she was hit. She died at the scene.

The Lynden man who was driving the van that hit her stopped and called in the accident.

Investigators don’t believe drugs or alcohol were involved in the accident. The investigation closed the highway for several hours.
