OLYMPIA, WA (MyBellinghamNow.com) – A handful of Washington residents who signed up for car loans are getting some of their money back.
State Attorney General Nick Brown says that he, along with a coalition of other attorneys general, reached a settlement with Credit Acceptance Corporation (CAC).
The company was accused of predatory loan practices, such as issuing loans that they knew customers wouldn’t be able to pay back.
Impacted customers whose cars ended up getting repossessed are eligible for debt relief, effective Nov. 2.
AG Brown says about 260 Washington residents will receive some form of financial relief, depending on the payment status of their vehicle and other circumstances. But Brown estimates that most impacted residents are looking at an average settlement payment of $1,400.
Customers who used CAC between Nov. 1, 2015 and Nov. 30, 2025 are encouraged to call the company’s customer service number at 800-634-1506 for any questions related to the settlement.
