OLYMPIA, WA (MyBellinghamNow.com) – The state has launched another lawsuit against the Trump administration, this time over funding cuts to public safety services.
The state Attorney General’s Office says the U.S. Department of Homeland Security and Federal Emergency Management Agency both made significant funding cuts to 11 states on Saturday.
The AG’s Office claims the cuts, which came without any explanation, targeted states based on their compliance with the federal crackdown on immigration.
“There is no force in American politics that is more reckless and destructive than the current president of the United States,” Brown said. “This latest action again highlights his commitment to undermining the freedoms and well-being of people in every corner of this nation that may disagree with him.”
Washington lost $2 million in federal grant funding.
Many of the severed grants fund salaries for first responders and support crucial efforts to prepare for and prevent disasters.
The AG’s Office says Homeland Security redistributed the lost funds to other states.
A federal judge temporarily blocked the department from reallocating the funds on Tuesday, Sept. 30.
