Whatcom County Sheriff’s deputies help locate missing Orcas Island man

ORCAS ISLAND, WA (MyBellinghamNow.com) – An Orcas Island man has been located following a daylong search.

The San Juan County Sheriff’s Office says the man was reported missing Wednesday morning, Sept. 2.

Whatcom County Sheriff’s search and rescue deputies were called to help locate the man, along with K9 units from Skagit County and Summit to Sound.

Rescuers searched 10 miles of rugged island terrain before they found the man safe in an unlocked vehicle.

He was medically evaluated and reunited with his family by the afternoon.

In a social media post about the rescue operation, Whatcom County Sheriff’s deputies were allowed to steer the ferry that transported them back to the mainland.
