WHATCOM COUNTY, WA (MyBellinghamNow.com) – Searches for two missing hikers in the North Cascades have come to tragic ends.
The Whatcom County Sheriff’s Office said that rescue crews located the body of 55-year-old Steven Dorsett Saturday afternoon in Okanogan National Forest.
Dorsett had set out on the Canyon Creek Trail June 24 and was supposed to return during the holiday weekend.
The Sheriff’s Office also said they received a report of a sighting of Gursimran Singh Randhawa in the Twin Sisters area Sunday, July 12. A search and rescue operation was launched Monday, July 13 and he was found deceased.
The hiker from British Columbia was due back in Canada on June 28.
The Sheriff’s Department expressed their thanks to several agencies for their help finding both hikers, including rescue teams in Okanogan, Skagit and Snohomish counties.
Whatcom County Sheriff’s Office seeks help finding overdue hiker
The Whatcom County Sheriff’s Office is searching for an overdue hiker who was last believed to be in east Whatcom County.
Deputies said 55-year-old Steven Dorsett hasn’t been heard from since June 24.
He was leaving the Canyon Creek Trailhead and possibly headed to Corral Lake, though the exact details of his trip remain unclear. The Sheriff’s Office said he was expected to return no later than this past weekend.
Search efforts are focused on Harts Pass, Pasayten Trail, Big Craggy and Pacific Crest Trail.
Dorsett stands 5 feet, 7 inches tall and weighs about 165 pounds. He is believed to be carrying a green Gregory Paragon backpack and using a green Marmot tent and sleeping bag.
